About

Inside Saint Cloud

The Saint Cloud subdivision, as it appears in Osceola County records, is the original town plat laid out in 1909 by the Seminole Land and Investment Company, not a modern builder development. The company acquired roughly 35,000 acres of the former Disston sugar plantation and subdivided it, selling five-acre farm tracts for about $50 each alongside the townsite lots.

The plat's defining feature is its street layout. Colonel McElroy platted the north-south streets and named them for the states that supported the Union, crossed by numbered avenues running east and west, producing the tight rectangular block grid that still governs the original core. Lots in that grid are narrow and deep by contemporary standards, and blocks are short, which is why the older sections read very differently from the deep-lot subdivisions platted around them decades later.

There is no association, no gate and no dues attached to the original plat itself. The townsite was recorded before incorporation, which followed on January 3, 1911, and it sits on the south side of East Lake Tohopekaliga.

Saint Cloud is served by Osceola County Public Schools. It suits a buyer looking for older housing stock on a walkable grid rather than a covenanted subdivision.
